Draft plan and policy statement for offshore wind
The Scottish Government have initiated consultation on both a draft sectoral marine plan and policy statement for offshore wind. Together, these documents will shape the next decade of offshore wind development in Scotland. The ambition is to secure 10GW of offshore wind capacity in this plan, with the policy to speed up the development process. An ambitious plan and cross sectoral collaboration are vital if Scotland is to achieve its target of 50% of Scotland total energy needs from renewable sources 2030.
Jack Farnham, Development Director at RIDG, said
As an independent, Scottish offshore wind developer we are delighted to see both the draft plan and policy statement published. Industry, stakeholders and suppliers now have the opportunity to truly shape the next decade of offshore wind in Scotland. Both the draft plan and policy are clear that cross sectoral collaboration is key to successfully delivering the jobs, skills and investment whilst maintaining the rigour and accountability of Scotland‘s planning system. We look forward to the launch of ScotWind leasing process so sites can be accessed to the benefit of the Scottish economy.”
